Corboy & Demetrio is proud to announce it is sponsoring a statue in the K9’s for Cops Public Art Campaign. The firm is working with Chicago artist Juan Carlos Frias, who will paint the statue, which stands 54 inches tall, with ribbons of awareness for breast cancer, colon cancer, kidney cancer and ovarian cancer.  The majority of the proceeds from the art campaign will go to the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation, which provides financial support to the families of dead and injured officers and maintains the lakeside Gold Star Families Memorial park. A portion of the proceeds will also go to PAWS Chicago, the area's largest no-kill shelter.
In 2014, Corboy & Demetrio took part in a similar program, Horses of Honor, sponsoring a horse to help CPMF to raise funds.

 The Center for Disability & Elder Law(CDEL) will host the Summer Fundraiser, “Karaoke for a Cause” on July 26, 2017 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Brandos Speakeasy in Chicago.
CDEL is a non-profit legal services organization, which serves vulnerable residents of Cook County by providing free legal services to low-income seniors and people with disabilities. Tickets to “Kareoke for a Cause” can be purchased here. Congratulations to Dr. M. Zaher Sahloul who received the 2017 Robert H. Kirschner Award for Global Activism at Marjorie Kovler Center’s 30th Anniversary Benefit on April 27, 2017.  Daniel S. Kirschner and Dr. M. Zaher Saloul It was the 6th installment of the Kirschner Award, which was created in memorial to Corboy & Demetrio Partner Daniel Kirschner’s late father to honor his human rights work. Dr. Kirschner was an internationally recognized forensic pathologist and well-regarded authority on child abuse, torture, police brutality, and the death penalty.  Dr. Robert H. Kirschner Dr. Kirschner's human rights work took him to more than a dozen foreign countries where torture, extra-judicial executions and mass killings occurred. Through the Kovler Center, Dr. Kirschner trained pro bono health providers to conduct forensic evaluations of torture survivors, provided ongoing consultation to Kovler Center staff and volunteers, and assisted Kovler Center client’s in the asylum-seeking process.
 Corboy & Demetrio Partner Francis Patrick Murphy attended the Lawyers’ Assistance Program’s 2017 Joseph R. Bartylak Dinner on April 20, 2017. Patrick is a longtime member of LAP’s Board of Directors and previously served as President for two terms, as well as Secretary.  Corboy & Demetrio client Mike Adamle, who is a former NBC Chicago sportscaster and six-year NFL player, will receive the Courage Award from the Concussion Legacy Foundation at its 2017 Chicago Honors on June 22, 2017.
Mike is being represented by attorneys William T. Gibbs and Thomas A. Demetrio in concussion litigation against the NFL. Adamle is one of more than 100 retired professional athletes and families of deceased players represented by Corboy & Demetrio. About Concussion Legacy Foundation The CLF was founded by Chris Nowinski and Dr. Robert Cantu. After seeking help from Dr. Cantu for his own post-concussion symptoms, Chris' view about concussions was completely changed. He discovered he had never been taught the signs and symptoms of a concussion, so he didn’t report them or even know he had them while playing football at Harvard. He wasn’t told the value of resting after a concussion, nor was he warned of the long-term effects. Chris decided to bring the information Dr. Cantu provided him into the public eye, and set a goal to change how concussions were understood and handled in sports. Corboy & Demetrio’s Bill Gibbs to Speak about NFL & NHL Concussion Litigation at CBA Event5/15/2017  Corboy & Demetrio Attorney Bill Gibbs will speak about the ongoing NHL concussion litigation and recently settled NFL concussion litigation at a CLE event hosted by the Chicago Bar Association’s Municipal and Law Division Committee on May 18th at the Daley Center.
In NFL litigation, Bill and Thomas Demetrio represent hundreds of former players, including former Chicago Bear and Sportscaster Mike Adamle, and the families of deceased players, including the late Chicago Bears Dave Duerson and Forrest Blue, in the class-action settlement and in litigation against Riddell. In NHL litigation, Bill and Thomas Demetrio were appointed to the Plaintiff's Executive Committee by U.S. District Court Judge Susan Richard Nelson in Minnesota, which is overseeing individual lawsuits against the National Hockey League relating to head injuries. In addition to their leadership role in the multi district litigation, Bill and Tom represent the Estate of former New York Rangers hockey enforcer Derek Boogaard in litigation against the NHL alleging the league failed to monitor the prescription of drugs by team doctors that led to Boogaard's death. Bill and Tom also represent the Estate of Steve Montador, the NHL player who died at the age of 35 after suffering multiple concussions and the effects of CTE. In addition, Corboy & Demetrio represents Steve Ludzik, who played for the Chicago Blackhawks for eight seasons and coached the Tampa Bay Lightning, claiming repeated concussive injuries resulted in Parkinson’s disease. Robert H. Kirschner Award for Global Activism to be Presented Corboy & Demetrio Partner Daniel S. Kirschner will serve as Co-Chair of the Heartland Alliance Marjorie Kovler Center’s 30th Anniversary Benefit to be held on April 27, 2017.

Corboy & Demetrio Attorney Bill Gibbs spoke to victims of brain injury and stroke at Midwest Brain Injury Clubhouse on March 16, 2017 in Chicago. Bill gave the presentation, "Law of Sports Brain Injuries" to Clubhouse members.
The Clubhouse provides life-long rehabilitative services, support and mentoring to brain injury and stroke victims, serving as a community-based day program for those who need continued development after their initial therapy has completed or has been reduced. Corboy & Demetrio currently represents more than 100 athletes who suffered brain injury, including concussions and CTE, as a result of repeated hits from playing professional football and hockey. The firm also represents the families of deceased players including the late Dave Duerson and Derek Boogaard. In addition, Bill and Thomas Demetrio represented Renea Poppel, a passenger who suffered brain injury after a Metra railroad derailment in 2005. The result was a record-setting jury verdict of $29.6 million after a two-week trial. Renea is a member of the Clubhouse and attended Bill’s presentation. The Clubhouse empowers those afflicted by brain injury and stroke through active engagement, work and purpose. It believes that through these efforts, further steps towards self-sufficiency and dignity following brain injury can be achieved. The Clubhouse also promotes fellowship as it unites with families, survivors and our community to work together toward the common goal of independence. March is Brain Injury Awareness Month.
