Corboy & Demetrio is proud to be a Patron Sponsor of the Lawyers for the Creative Arts 2018 Benefit Luncheon celebrating Chicago’s Year of Creative Youth. The fundraiser will take place on Nov. 1, 2018, at the Palmer House Hilton Hotel in Chicago.
Lawyers for the Creative Arts provides pro bono legal help to artists. It was started in 1972 by a group of young lawyers who formed what they called the Creative City Committee. Its mission is to provide legal assistance to artists and arts organizations financially unable retain legal counsel, and it relies on attorneys who volunteer their time.

Corboy & Demetrio, a longtime supporter of the Brain Injury Association of Illinois (BIAI), was a Gold Sponsor of its 24th Annual Golf Outing and Dinner, which took place on Sept. 25, 2018 at the Deerfield Golf Club in Riverwoods, Illinois.  Corboy & Demetrio Associate Attorney Andrew P. Stevens, on far left, along with Corboy & Demetrio Partners David R. Barry, Jr., center, and William T. Gibbs played on Corboy & Demetrio’s team, which was one of the top three finishers of the day, according to BIAI.
The BIA of IL is the only statewide organization in Illinois serving individuals with Acquired Brain Injury, their families and professionals who treat them. It works to assist in developing communication channels between families and professionals in a way that improves relationships and cooperation, enhances teamwork and helps decrease potential issues that might arise. The Brain Injury Association of Illinois works with local, state and national organizations to consistently lead Illinois in providing quality, affordable and accessible services to people with brain injuries and their families. The BIA of Illinois is dedicated to providing information, resources, advocacy, and support.  Corboy & Demetrio Attorney Michael D. Ditore was appointed to the Young Professionals Board of Good Sports on June 20, 2018. Good Sports is a non-profit organization that provides underprivileged children with sports equipment, apparel and footwear so that they can have the lifelong benefits of sports and physical activity.
According to Good Sports, participation rates in youth sports are on the decline, increasing the number of children in need of the opportunity to experience the benefits of sports. With the support of manufacturers, distributors and funders, Good Sports is able to supply the much-needed equipment and apparel to community organizations. Good Sports’ Young Professional Board works to promote and raise awareness for the organization as well as works with the leadership team to develop new fundraising opportunities and to secure sponsorships. The nonprofit has donated over $26 million worth of brand new sports equipment to underprivileged children across the country, supplying equipment that has helped more than 3,700 organizations. SCIA, the Illinois chapter of the United Spinal Association, provides resources for people affected by paralysis. Family members, professionals and those living with paralysis can receive referrals, peer support, and information from SCIA. The organization’s Board of Directors is made up of medical professionals, lawyers, and others who advocate for those affected by spinal cord injuries. One of the ways that SCIA works to prevent spinal cord injuries is through its THINK FIRST injury prevention program. This program has been presented to thousands of students throughout Chicago. Spinal injury victims use their stories to educate others about how to cut down the risk of injuries. LAF assists underprivileged communities in Cook County by providing civil legal services to those in need. Because there is no constitutional right to counsel in civil courts, many go without the legal resources they need. LAF works to give those in need necessary legal resources that they would not otherwise have. At the luncheon, the Hon. Ann Claire Williams received the Champion of Justice Award for her commitment to serving those in poverty. Additionally, Ainat Margalit received the Jerold S. Solovy Equal Justice Award. Judge Charles P. Kocoras, United States Federal Judge of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, will be honored with the Hellenic Bar Association's Socrates Dikastes Award at the annual event. The award is presented each year to the judge who exemplifies the principles as identified by the great Greek philosopher, Socrates. Corboy & Demetrio is proud to be a Founder Sponsor of the 2018 Golden Gavel Celebration, which is the largest annual fundraiser for Coordinated Advice & Referral Program for Legal Services(CARPLS). The event, “One Justice for All,” takes place on Thursday, May 24, 2018, at the Fairmont Chicago.
Corboy & Demetrio Partner Susan J. Schwartz serves on CARPLS Board of Directors and has been involved with CARPLS for many years. CARPLS is Cook County’s largest provider of free legal services. Founded in 1993, it has helped more than 800,000 low- and moderate-income residents with their legal problems, including divorce and custody issues, landlord-tenant disputes, foreclosures and debt. It also operates a free telephone hotline that allows people to speak directly to attorneys. The first of its kind in the nation, the CARPLS hotline has served as a model for legal assistance providers across the country. In addition, CARPLS offers legal advice and document preparation assistance at four court-based self-help centers. These services are provided for people representing themselves.  Mike Adamle, a former NFL player and TV sports broadcaster, will host a Launch Reception for The Mike Adamle Project: Rise Above, on Thurs., March 1st at the National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame in Chicago.
Adamle, who suffers from dementia and other CTE symptoms, is represented by Corboy & Demetrio Partner William Gibbs and Corboy & Demetrio Co-founder Thomas Demetrio in concussion litigation against the NFL. The Mike Adamle Project: Rise Above is a new initiative with Concussion Legacy Foundation (CLF), and it was created by Mike to provide tools, resources and support to patients living with symptoms of CTE.
